I’m thrilled to announce the first draft of Under the Table: an Office Shrinkeractive is complete! This is my enormous interactive shrinking adventure book. It’s been a mammoth undertaking and sprawled into a much bigger project than I intended, fingers crossed it’ll prove popular. Here’s where it’s all at:
An Interactive Shrinking Story
You’ve been shrunk in the office by you’re ambitious manager, and it’s up to you to escape her evil clutches. You have to make the right choices to navigate a whooping 215 chapter entries (which average about 400-800 words a piece), clocking in at 105,000 words total. Mostly you have two options after each entry, but naturally this branches and branches into all sorts of possibilities – in some places you’ll have minor variations on similar themes, but in other cases your journey can go in wildly different directions. The common threat, though, is your giant coworkers, either willingly or obliviously capable of killing you in an instant. There’s 90 different ways to end the story badly (mostly by dying!) and only 1 correct solution.
What to expect from Under the Table
This is a literary maze of epic proportions, where it’s possible to see every major character treated as a giant or shrunken, with tons of grabbing, a bit of crushing, and a great many ways to get eaten. We’ve got arcs such as cat-and-mouse chases with your manager; perilous creeping through the bustling open office; encounters with a dangerously beautiful coworker, a mad scientist, the rough-handed cleaner and more; and even possibilities to get out of the office into the terrible clutches of your boss’s family. All this comes in the pursuit in enlisting your one true friend’s help in restoring your size.
Shrinking Men and Women
It’s all written in an ungendered second person, so can be read as you playing yourself, or your choice of imagining a male or female protagonist. And while this office is principally populated by seemingly giant women, there’s also a couple of men in there if you want something a little different (or if you don’t, to add some extra threat!).
What next?
Now starts the expansive task of editing the book all together, but it should be a downhill battle from here. Fingers crossed for a summer release, in both eBook and paperback format, with a few previews around the web. We’ve already had one group play-through on my Patreon, and I’ll be offering the advance eBook to all Tier 2 Patrons as soon as it’s ready, well before the public release – so if you want to be the first to enjoy this mad adventure, you can support it there. Otherwise, look out for it in stores everywhere soon!
Right now, I’m going to take a much-needed break, but I’ll be back on finalising some alternative cover designs for this soon.
